About Dr. Nicholas Ghionni
Nicholas Ghionni, DO, is a board-certified Pulmonary and Critical Care physician with a passion for clinical excellence, medical education, and making complex physiology accessible to healthcare professionals at every level.
Dr. Ghionni completed his Internal Medicine residency at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Pennsylvania, where he served as Chief Resident. He subsequently completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, serving as Chief Fellow during his final year of training.
His clinical and educational interests center on mechanical ventilation, respiratory physiology, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), and critical care medicine. With a particular passion for ventilator education, Dr. Ghionni focuses on bridging the gap between complex physiological concepts and practical bedside application.
Dr. Ghionni also serves as a preceptor for a yearlong mechanical ventilation curriculum, led by experts in the field and delivered to a growing community of pulmonary and critical care fellows and attending physicians. The curriculum emphasizes a physiology-based approach to mechanical ventilation, helping clinicians develop a deeper understanding of respiratory mechanics, ventilator-patient interactions, and the application of physiological principles to bedside decision-making.
As the founder of Pulmonary Toileting, LLC and creator of @pulmtoilet, Dr. Ghionni has developed an educational platform dedicated to making mechanical ventilation approachable, engaging, and clinically relevant. Through social media, interactive webinars, hands-on workshops, and educational resources, he helps healthcare professionals build confidence in understanding and managing mechanical ventilation.
He is also the creator and host of the Peak Inspiration Podcast, where he explores mechanical ventilation, respiratory physiology, and critical care topics through practical discussions designed to challenge conventional thinking and strengthen clinical understanding.
At the heart of his educational philosophy is a simple mission: to make complex critical care physiology understandable, practical, and accessible to anyone who wants to learn.
